Book Your Sabi Sabi Airport Transfer

Whether you're staying at Bush Lodge, Earth Lodge, Little Bush Camp or Selati Camp, only part of the journey is complimentary. Flying direct to Sabi Sabi's own airstrip includes the vehicle transfer — a Skukuza or KMIA road transfer is arranged and paid for separately. Why You're Seeing This Page

Only part of the Sabi Sabi transfer is included

All four Sabi Sabi lodges share the same private reserve, gate and airstrip, but sit at different points within it. There are two genuinely different routes in, and only one of them includes the vehicle transfer:

Fly direct to the Sabi Sabi airstrip via Federal Air or another charter from OR Tambo — the vehicle transfer from the airstrip to your specific lodge is complimentary.

Fly scheduled airlines into Skukuza or KMIA — the more common option, since scheduled flights are usually easier to book than charters — and the road transfer is arranged and paid for separately.

Not sure which of the four lodges you're at, or which route fits your flights? Tell us and we'll confirm rather than have you guess.

Planning the Route

For guests who want the detail before they book — the two routes in, compared honestly.

Your Two Routes In
Fly Direct to the Sabi Sabi Airstrip

Federal Air and other charter operators fly directly from OR Tambo to Sabi Sabi's own private airstrip. This is the one route where the vehicle transfer — airstrip to your specific lodge — is complimentary. Worth knowing: charter flights typically limit you to a single 20kg checked bag per person — a road transfer with us doesn't have that restriction, and it's usually cheaper too.

Fly Commercial to Skukuza or KMIA

The route most guests actually use, since scheduled flights are usually easier to book than charters. The road transfer into the reserve is arranged and paid for separately — this is where we come in.

The Road Route

Skukuza to Sabi Sabi, by Road

For guests flying commercial into Skukuza, a private transfer runs through Shaws or Newington Gate and into the Sabi Sabi traversing area to your specific lodge.

Typically 30–45 minutes, depending on which lodge
Skukuza Airport
Arrivals, inside Kruger
Shaws / Newington Gate
Sabi Sand entry, cash entrance fee applies
Sabi Sabi Traversing Area
Private reserve roads
Your Lodge
Bush Lodge, Earth Lodge, Little Bush Camp or Selati

On timing: an entrance fee is payable per vehicle and per person at the gate, in cash — confirm the current amount with your operator.

Honest Comparison

Fly to Skukuza, or Road Transfer From KMIA?

Fly to Skukuza

Short hop to the gate
  • Shortest transfer — 30–45 minutes door to door
  • Straightforward if your routing already goes via Johannesburg
  • Fewer scheduled seats than KMIA, which can push fares higher in peak season

Road Transfer From KMIA

Private vehicle, longer drive
  • Often the cheaper, easier-to-book flight in, with more airlines and frequencies
  • The road transfer isn't complimentary — arranged and paid separately
  • Roughly 1h45m–2h of driving before you reach the gate

Other Ways In

Self-Drive to Sabi Sabi

Technically, yes — with a confirmed booking you can self-drive in through Shaws or Newington Gate and pay the entrance fee on arrival. In practice, Sabi Sand's traversing roads aren't signposted, and finding your specific Sabi Sabi lodge's own access track after a long flight is harder than it looks. Most guests who look into it end up asking us to arrange it instead.

Questions

Sabi Sabi Transfer — FAQ

Only if you fly direct charter to Sabi Sabi's own airstrip — that vehicle leg is complimentary. A Skukuza or KMIA road transfer is arranged and paid for separately.

All four lodges — Bush Lodge, Earth Lodge, Little Bush Camp and Selati Camp — share the same reserve and gate, but sit in slightly different spots. Tell us which one and we'll match the vehicle and timing.

Typically 30–45 minutes, including the stop at Shaws or Newington Gate, depending on which lodge you're staying at.

Yes, though it's a longer road transfer of roughly 1h45m–2h. It's usually only worth it if Skukuza flights are limited or more expensive on your dates.

Yes, via Federal Air or another charter operator from OR Tambo. This is the one route where the airstrip-to-lodge vehicle transfer is complimentary.

Yes, with a confirmed booking, through Shaws or Newington Gate. Traversing roads aren't signposted, which is why most first-time guests still choose an arranged transfer.
