Conservation fees are charged per person, per day, by passport
Kruger's daily conservation fee depends on which passport you're travelling on, not where you happen to be flying in from. South African citizens and residents pay one rate, most SADC nationals pay a middle rate, and everyone else pays the standard international rate. Children aged 2 to 11 pay roughly half; under 2s pay nothing.
There's a genuinely useful nuance here too: nationals of Mozambique or Zimbabwe travelling on their own passport pay the South African resident rate at Kruger specifically, under the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park agreement, not the standard SADC rate. This calculator accounts for that automatically.
- Fees change every 1 November. If your stay crosses that date, this calculator applies the correct rate to each day of your trip separately.
- A private transfer vehicle entering Skukuza purely to pick up or drop off passengers is charged its own day-visitor conservation fee, at the South African resident rate, separate from what your guests pay. This is included below as an optional line item.
- Conservation fees are always separate from any safari, transfer, or accommodation cost, they go directly to SANParks, not to KrugerGuide.com or any operator.
- Fees are set by SANParks and are subject to change without notice. Treat this tool as a solid planning estimate and confirm the exact amount with your camp or operator before you travel.

Children under 2 don't pay a conservation fee and don't need to be added to this calculator.
Fees can change without notice
SANParks publishes fees a season at a time and reserves the right to adjust them. Confirm the current fee at your gate or with your operator before you travel.
Pay at the gate or in advance
Conservation fees can usually be paid at the gate on arrival, or pre-loaded onto a SANParks e-wallet or WILD card to skip the queue.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Conservation fees go directly to SANParks and are always separate from whatever you pay an operator for a safari, transfer, or accommodation. Any quote that folds them together isn't being transparent about the split.
The common convention, and this calculator's default, is nights plus one, since your arrival day counts as a full conservation day. If your camp or operator calculates it differently, use the manual override in the calculator to match their figure.
Both. This calculator checks each individual day of your stay against the correct fee schedule and totals them separately, so you're not overpaying or underpaying on either side of the change.
No, they pay the South African resident rate at Kruger specifically, under the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park agreement. Tick the transfrontier checkbox under SADC Nationals in the calculator to apply this automatically.
When a private transfer vehicle enters the park purely to collect or drop off passengers at Skukuza, that vehicle is charged its own day-visitor conservation fee at the South African resident rate, on top of what your guests pay individually. It doesn't apply if you're self-driving.
